Privacy policy
Last updated 2 October 2026. This policy explains what information MindySheets handles, why, and the choices you have.
Summary
- Your spreadsheet files are processed in your browser and are not uploaded to or stored on our servers.
- When you use an AI feature, a summary of your sheet, your request and calculated results are sent to Anthropic’s Claude API to produce Mindy’s answer. We don’t keep the content of those requests.
- We keep minimal operational data (a hashed daily usage counter and anonymous usage statistics) and the details you choose to give us, such as your email.
- We don’t sell personal information and we don’t use advertising trackers.
Who we are
MindySheets (“we”, “us”) operates the website mindysheets.com and the MindySheets spreadsheet assistant. You can contact us about privacy at hello@mindysheets.com or through our contact form.
Information we handle
Spreadsheet files
When you open a file in MindySheets, it is read and processed by code running in your web browser. The file is not transmitted to our servers, and it is discarded when you close or reload the page. Downloads you create are generated in your browser too.
AI requests
If you use an AI feature (for example Mindy’s summary, a question, a cleaning plan, a formula or a report), your browser sends the request through our server to Anthropic, which provides the Claude AI model. Depending on the feature, the request contains your question or instructions, a compact profile of the sheet (column names, types, statistics, common values, detected problems and a small sample of rows) and the results of calculations Mindy asks for. With Private mode switched on, sample rows and the values of personal columns are withheld. Our server forwards these requests and does not store their content or the AI’s responses.
Anthropic processes this data to provide the service. Anthropic states that it does not use API inputs and outputs to train its models by default and that it deletes them within 30 days by default, with limited exceptions. See Anthropic’s privacy centre for details.
Usage and security data
- Daily usage counter. To share free AI credits fairly, we count requests per visitor using a one-way hash of the IP address combined with the date. Counters are deleted after three days.
- Usage statistics. We log the type of AI task, the model used, the response status and token counts so we can monitor reliability and cost. These logs contain no spreadsheet content or questions.
- Server logs. Like most websites, our hosting provider may record standard request logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested and time) for security and troubleshooting.
Information you give us
If you join early access, subscribe to updates or contact us, we collect the details you enter: your email address and, optionally, your name, company, role, plan interest and message. We use them to reply, to manage early access and, if you asked for them, to send product news. Every email includes a way to unsubscribe.
Browser storage and cookies
MindySheets stores a few preferences in your browser’s local storage (such as Private mode, your preferred spreadsheet app for formulas and whether you dismissed a banner). These never leave your device. We don’t set advertising or tracking cookies. If we enable privacy-friendly analytics, it measures page views and feature usage, not your data, and this policy will name the provider.
How we use information
- To provide MindySheets and its AI features.
- To prevent abuse and keep the free service available to everyone.
- To understand which features are used, so we can improve them.
- To respond to you and, with your permission, send updates about MindySheets.
Where laws such as the GDPR or South Africa’s POPIA apply, we rely on your consent (for updates), our legitimate interests (running, securing and improving the service) and the steps needed to provide the service you ask for.
Who we share it with
We share information only with service providers that help us run MindySheets: Anthropic (AI processing), our web hosting provider and our email provider. They may process data in other countries, and we rely on their contractual and security commitments. We don’t sell or rent personal information, and we disclose it to authorities only when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Spreadsheet files are never stored. Usage counters are deleted after three days. Usage statistics are kept in aggregate for as long as they’re useful for running the service. Contact and early-access details are kept until you ask us to delete them or they’re no longer needed.
Your choices and rights
You can use MindySheets without giving us any personal details. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict its use, and to withdraw consent. Email hello@mindysheets.com and we’ll respond within a reasonable time. You can also complain to your local data protection authority, such as the Information Regulator in South Africa or the supervisory authority in your EU country.
Security
The site uses HTTPS. The AI service key is kept on the server and never sent to browsers. Because files are processed on your device, keep your device and browser up to date and use Private mode for sensitive data.
Children
MindySheets is a business tool and isn’t directed at children under 16. We don’t knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes to this policy
We’ll update this page when our practices change and adjust the date at the top. Significant changes will be highlighted on the site.
