CSV cleaner

CSV exports from shops, banks and CRMs are rarely clean. Drop one here and Mindy sorts out the encoding, spacing, spellings, dates and duplicates — then hands you back a tidy file.

Common CSV problems, solved

CSV is the format every system exports and nobody exports the same way.

Garbled characters

“Café” turns into “Café” when the file’s encoding doesn’t match. The cleaner detects UTF-8, UTF-16 and Windows-1252 and saves clean UTF-8.

Everything in one column

Semicolon, tab and pipe-separated files open in a single column in Excel. The delimiter is detected automatically.

Lost leading zeros

Product codes and phone numbers like 0821234567 stay text, so no zeros go missing.

Dates in three formats

2026-03-14, 14/03/2026 and Mar 14, 2026 in one column, all rewritten as one format.

Numbers with symbols

“$1,234.50”, “R 1 200” and “(300)” become real numbers you can add up.

Duplicates and blanks

Repeated rows from re-exports and empty lines removed, with every change recorded.

Opening the clean file in Excel

The cleaner saves CSVs as UTF-8 with a byte-order mark, so Excel shows accents and symbols correctly when you double-click the file.

  • Prefer a workbook? Download as .xlsx: dates and numbers arrive as real values, with filters on the header row.
  • Importing into another system? Download CSV: comma-separated, quoted where needed, one header row.
  • Every change is listed on the “Changes” sheet of the Excel download.

CSV Cleaner questions

Why does my CSV look garbled when I open it in Excel?

Usually it’s an encoding mismatch (accented letters become symbols) or the wrong delimiter (everything lands in one column). The CSV cleaner detects the encoding and delimiter automatically and exports a UTF-8 file Excel opens correctly.

Which delimiters are supported?

Commas, semicolons, tabs and pipes. The delimiter is detected from the file.

Will it keep leading zeros like product codes and phone numbers?

Yes. Values with leading zeros are treated as text, not numbers, so 00123 stays 00123.

Can I download the result as Excel instead?

Yes. Download either a clean CSV or an Excel workbook that also lists every change on a “Changes” sheet.

Is the CSV uploaded anywhere?

No. It’s processed in your browser. AI features send only a short summary to Claude.
